USL 2 2019 Season Review

By Staff, 07/11/19, 12:00PM PDT

After our inaugural 2019 USL 2 season has come to an end we look back on another enjoyable summer.  With a final record of 5-7-2 we feel it was another season filled with positives. After a rocky start to the season the team managed to settled in nicely. Seeing their hard work pay off with good results the season was resurrected including an unbeaten run for two weekends in a row. The team also managed to go as high in the table as second place. One of the biggest highlights of the season was being the first team to beat the reigning USL 2 Western Conference Southern Division Champions FC Golden State at by a score line of 2 - 1. Additionally our Player of the Season award was handed to Forward Ettore Ballestracci as he finished with 9 goals and 4 assists in 9 games. Not only that , but Ettore was also featured in two USL 2 National Team’s of the Week and four USL 2 Western Conference Team’s of the Week.

Head coach Michael Runeare had this to say about our season , “ Even though we fell short of making the playoffs I feel we had a successful second campaign. All the teams in our conference fielded stronger sides than last year and we were very competitive in every game. We had a great group of players that represented the club well. They were excited to compete and a pleasure to coach. The highlight of the season was beating FC Golden State, who was unbeaten at the time. We look forward to next season and applying the lessons from our first two seasons as we continue to offer young aspiring players the opportunity to pursue their professional aspirations”.

As well as on the field , your Breakers FC made several big improvements off the field. As we learned from the previous season and continued to grow this season one addition we made was live streaming all home games directly to our youtube channel. Next season we will continue to make additions to our live stream so that the experience is even more enjoyable to our fans and followers. Another addition to our game day experience were food trucks. Every home game we had award winning food trucks there like ate3one food truck straight from our home city of Santa Cruz. Also , when our fans showed up wanting to represent their team we had a pop-up shop filled with Breakers FC gear for sale such as training shirts , jackets , 1/4 zips , polo’s , blankets , and plenty more.

In conclusion we are upset to see the season come to an end earlier than we would have liked but are extremely excited to see what the future holds. With next season already in mind we cannot wait to get back on the field. We would like to thank all of our fans , sponsors , and Breakers FC families that helped make this possible and to yet another special season, see you in 2020.
