The Santa Cruz Breakers FC PDL team took on the Fresno FC U23 Foxes on this cold and windy Friday night. The Breakers entered the game only 1 point ahead of Fresno in the standing but still with a bitter taste in their mouth. Last time these two played the Foxes were able to get the better of the Breakers winning 3-0.
With that in mind the Breakers looked to bounce back from their loss last weekend against FC Golden State. The Breakers got off to a very positive start and were rewarded with a goal by forward Walmer Martinez who volleyed home a cross by left back Angel Farias. They did not have to wait much longer for more as Martinez doubled the lead in the 20th minute with a cool finish in front of net after being denied twice by the goalkeeper. As halftime came along the Breakers were feeling in control and not much changed in the second half. Within 5 minutes of the restart they added a third from a brilliant cut and finish inside the box from midfielder Willy Miranda. A fourth came shortly after as Alvaro Madrigal scored off of a slightly deflected free kick at the top of the box. The Foxes got one back in the 70th minute but their comeback hopes were put to bed quickly after as Andrew Mendoza proved to be a super sub and scored a wonderful goal.
With 3 more points and a convincing victory against a very good Fresno FC team the team is feeling confident. They will be hitting the road this weekend as they play against Orange County this Sunday at 4:00pm at OC Great Park.
