Week six of the PDL season saw your Breakers FC play its second match in three days Sunday afternoon as they took on the Orange County’s U23’s. After a strong performance Friday they were feeling full of confidence.
As the first half began the Breakers were able to create a few chances in the first 20 minutes of the game. Their best chance of the half fell to Willy Miranda who found himself in on goal but was denied by the leg of the keeper. Soon after the tables turned and it was Orange County enjoying majority possession. They were able to take the lead half way through the first half through a finish from the top of the box. As the half went on both teams threatened a few times but neither scored as the half ended 1-0 in favor of Orange County. The Breakers started the half very strong, searching for their equalizer. MLS All - Star Ramiro Corrales was denied at the back post by a strong hand from the keeper. The Breakers kept up the pressure and shortly after were able to find the back of the net. Corrales galloped down the left hand side and delivered a perfect cross to forward Andrew Mendoza who was able to head the ball back across the face of the goal for Miranda to tuck it away. As the half went on the Breakers looked like the team more likely to score but just could not finish it off.
Four points out of six this weekend sees the Breakers undefeated in week six. The team has a bye week this week and returns to Southern California in two weeks. They will play the San Diego Zest Saturday, June 23rd at Sage Creek High School at 5:00pm.
