Week eight of the PDL season saw your Santa Cruz Breakers come up against the Ventura County Fusion. After splitting their road trip last weekend getting three out of six possible points the Breakers looked forward to another two game weekend. With second place on the line and a possible playoff spot up for grabs the Breakers looked to keep their hold on second place in the division as the Fusion were only one point behind.
In the first half the Breakers had a perfect start scoring just three minutes into the game through midfielder Alvaro Madrigal. While in on goal Madrigal was able to chip the goalkeeper as came off his line. As the first half went on the Fusion enjoyed the majority of the possession. They were able to get into the Breakers defensive half but were not able to find the goal they were searching for. Your Breakers managed to see out the first half and carry their one goal advantage into the second half.
With second place and a possible playoff spot on the line the Fusion knew they had to come out and push from the start. Looking for the equalizer the visitors tried creating some chances but once again found no luck as goalkeeper Paul Blanchette made a few big time saves. The Breakers were able to deliver the knock out punch as midfielder WIlly Miranda was able to finish past the keeper as he intercepted one of the center backs passes. Once the second goal went in the Breakers were able to control the rest of the game and gain another three points at home.
Increasing their lead to four points now over the Fusion and holding firm in second place the Breakers feel confident going into their next match. They will take on SF City at 2:00pm at Kezar Stadium.
